Christmas is coming again! Let's go to Milan and try Italian Christmas bread or leavened cake called "Panettone". Milan is a capital of fashion and design in Europe. It is a very busy city starting when you arrive at the main train station like other metropolitan cities:
The interior of this building looks very nice and clean:
The exterior is also impressive:
It is easy to walk from the main train station to the Gothic Duomo di Milano cathedral which is a landmark of this city:
You will never miss the most popular tourist attraction in Milan. It is hard to get lost, but easy to get robbed. Many tourists come for shopping the high-end products and dining in the restaurants:
Everything is exclusive in Milan, even the floor is made of marble with a golden rosette in the center?!!!
Many smokers left their cigarettes beneath the rosette. It was a mystery why a handglove was on the floor. Was it there for someone who tried to investigate it or the cleaner gave up trying to take these cigarettes out of the rosette?? As it is the world's oldest shopping mall and the main entrance of this shopping plaza ( Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II ) is located beside the Milan cathedrale:
No wonder why this place is always full of tourists. It leads to the Piazza della Scala where the monument of Leonardo da Vinci stands in the pedestrian plaza:
As "Panettone" is originally from Milan, it looks exclusive and tastes like expensive puffy sweet bread loaf:
The founder of this Italian Christmas bread is Angelo Motta. It was handmade in 1919! Italians enjoy it during Christmas to New Year.
However, it is possible to buy panettone any time in Italy, but not in a nice box like this with a holder on a Christmas tree or as a gift. Occasionally, it has a satin or silk wrap. A sweet bread style called "Pandoro" has a star shape and contains vanilla and icing sugar (powdered sugar). It can be served with marcarpone, amaretto (Italian liqueur with almond-flavour) and candied fruits in some regions of Italy.
It is such a mess but fun to make snow with mascarpone, use chocolate powder instead of icing sugar and pour some amaretto from the top. Finally, you will get a treasure mountain if you add a treasure box with some golden coins:
If you wish to have a green hill or forest mountain, use coconut shredded with matcha green tea powder instead of chocolate powder.
By the way, the size of image in the blue box is actually big, a huge bread for the family or friends to celebrate Christmas together. It should resemble Italian Alps by adding powdered sugar at the top of the bread like white Christmas. It is what people always wish to have it during this time of the year. Once you open this box, it looks like this:
It comes with a sachet of powdered sugar at the bottom of this box:
As you can see, the images show how you should do. You need to add powdered sugar on the top and it is not silica gel pack!
Once you find out what side should be the top or bottom, the flat side with 8 pointed star shape should be the top. At the end, you will get this:
There are many ingredients and style for people who have problem with gluten or without candied orange peel:
The original recipe from Milan contains flour, raisins and candied orange peel:
Many factories produce in various sizes and add other ingredients such as chocolate chips:
or just plain bread in a nice box:
It could be a long bread that is cut in pieces and sold price per meter:
This one contains a lot of almond, raisins and candied orange and lemon. How wonderful it is!
If you really need to try this one because it is not sold in your country, you can order from us during Christmas. Buon Natale!
